My Swimming and Triathlon Background
I originally started swimming as part of rehab after an injury. I broke my collarbone on a TDY, it didn’t set correctly, and I ended up needing surgery with a plate to get it to heal. Recovery took a long time, and my doctor recommended swimming to rebuild shoulder strength and improve range of motion.

For a while, swimming was mostly just “fitness swimming” for me, on and off, without much structure. That changed during my last real deployment to the UAE in 2013. I was deep into a personal fitness journey at the time, running consistently, feeling strong, and I got it in my head that I wanted to do a triathlon when I got home.

I got back in late 2013 and signed up for the local YMCA Try-a-Tri in June 2014, and I’ve been chasing the sport ever since.

Triathlon experience includes:
-
12 sprint-distance triathlons
-
2 indoor super sprints
-
3 Olympic-distance triathlons
-
1 gravel triathlon (non-standard distance, starting at over a mile high in elevation)
-
8 middle-distance triathlons, including:
-
6 IRONMAN 70.3 races
-
1 PTO T100 race
-

A few results I’m proud of:
-
2 overall race wins
-
1 second overall finish
-
2 Masters category wins
-
A handful of age-group podiums

Swims worth highlighting:
-
IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene: 36:16 (about 1:43/100y)
-
IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Cruz: 33:20 (about 1:34/100y)

Those were both open-water race swims, so I’m especially proud of the pacing and execution.
